KiMuPe* is an approach that reconsiders the role of the body and body movement in instrumental music teaching and learning. It is being developed by Luc Nijs, music researcher, educator, and performer. Taking into account the increasing empirical evidence on the role of the body in musical interaction, this approach adheres to the idea that instrumental music education cannot (or maybe: can no longer) neglect the importance of integrating an “education of the body” that goes beyond the mere instrumentalist approach to body and instrument as advocated by the traditionalist master-apprentice model of instrumental music teaching and learning.

The overall framework of this approach is Embodied Music Pedagogy, as developed by Luc Nijs and Melissa Bremmer. 

This pedagogy builds on state-of-the-art research-based theories, developed in domains such as musicology, educational sciences, psychology, and sports sciences. ​The theoretical core combines dynamical systems theory and the constraints-led approach with the theory of embodied interaction. Recently, this has been broadened to positive psychology (PERMA model) to connect the approach to well-being and human flourishing.
